Thermo Scientific Orion High-Performance Ammonia Electrode
Manufacturer: Thermo Fisher Scientific
Description
Designed for the determination of ammonia nitrogen, the Thermo Scientific Orion High-Performance Ammonia Electrode is an ion-selective sensor for use with appropriate benchtop meters. It measures the activity of ammonium ions (NH4+) after sample alkalization converts ammonia and ammonium to dissolved ammonia gas, which diffuses through a gas-permeable membrane. This method is applicable for testing water, wastewater, soil extracts, and other samples. The electrode assembly typically includes a reference element and an internal filling solution. For optimal operation, samples require the addition of a high ionic strength adjusting solution to ensure consistent junction potential and release ammonia gas. The electrode provides a direct potentiometric measurement, which can be faster than traditional distillation or colorimetric techniques. Regular maintenance, such as refilling the internal electrolyte and ensuring membrane integrity, is necessary for sustained accuracy and electrode lifespan.
