Description

The SPECTROstar Omega is a microplate reader from BMG LABTECH designed for absorbance measurements. Its core feature is a rapid UV/Vis spectrometer that can capture a full spectrum from 220 to 1000 nm at a 1 nm resolution without the need for wavelength scanning, achieving this in under one second per well. This is facilitated by a high-energy xenon flash lamp optical system. The instrument supports a wide range of plate formats, from 6 to 1536 wells. It includes functionalities such as precise temperature control, onboard reagent injection, and plate shaking to support various assay protocols. A key aspect of its design is modularity; the base absorbance reader can be upgraded at any time to add fluorescence and luminescence detection modes, transforming it into a FLUOstar Omega or POLARstar Omega multidetection system. Optional accessories include an Atmospheric Control Unit (ACU) for independent regulation of O2 and CO2 levels within the reader, a microplate stacker for automated handling, and specialized plates for low-volume quantification or instrument validation.
