Description

Shim-pack Arata LC Columns from Shimadzu are reversed-phase chromatography columns engineered to address specific challenges in the analysis of basic compounds and peptides. They utilize a proprietary end-capping technology and are designed to operate within a pH range of 2 to 7.5. A key technical feature is their ability to deliver excellent peak shape for high pH basic compounds while simultaneously maintaining good peak shape for acidic analytes, even when using low ionic strength acidic mobile phases like 0.1% formic acid. This performance helps mitigate common issues such as peak tailing, fronting, and long column equilibration times often encountered with standard ODS columns under these conditions. For peptide analysis, the columns enable good separation and peak shape with weak ion-pairing acids (e.g., formic acid), providing an alternative to stronger ion-pairing agents like TFA, which can cause ion suppression in LC/MS detection. The columns are available with particle sizes of 2.2 µm and 5 µm.
