Description

The Semi-Automated Sheet Heat Sealer, previously known as the IntelliXseal SA, is a benchtop instrument designed for sealing microplates and deep-well blocks. It employs a controlled heat sealing process to create a consistent, secure barrier over plate wells, which helps prevent sample evaporation, contamination, and cross-contamination. Operation involves placing the plate and sealing film onto a holder and pressing a button; an electric mechanism then automatically closes the drawer and manages the sealing cycle. This automated process minimizes operator variability and reduces the risk of damaging plates through over-sealing. The unit offers adjustable sealing temperatures from 60°C to 200°C and variable cycle times, allowing parameters to be optimized for different plate types. It is compatible with SBS-standard polypropylene and polystyrene plates, deep-well blocks, and various PCR plate formats including skirted, semi-skirted, and non-skirted. Key operational features include a rapid heating element for quick startup, a real-time temperature display, and energy-saving modes that automatically reduce the heating element to 60°C during idle periods or power down completely after extended non-use. These trigger times can be user-adjusted. The sealer has a compact footprint of 181 mm (W) x 275 mm (L) x 310 mm (H), requires 110/230V power with a maximum draw of 300W, and includes an RS-232 port for potential integration into automated laboratory systems.
