Description

Based on a modified Harms & Ojeda design, this IITC Life Science catheter is intended for chronic cannulation of the rat jugular vein, primarily for repeated blood sampling. Its construction includes a 170mm length of PE20 tubing attached to a Silastic tip with a 0.037-inch outer diameter that extends 70mm. The modified design aims to improve patency and reliability for serial blood collection in conscious, unrestrained animals. Implanting such a chronic catheter avoids the physiological disruptions caused by acute surgical procedures, anesthesia, and the stress of restraint associated with traditional sampling methods.
