Pressure Arteriography System

Description

A Pressure Arteriography System is an instrument used for ex vivo vascular function analysis. It is considered a standard method for quantifying the functional, reactive, and mechanical properties of isolated blood vessels. The core of the system typically involves a pressure arteriograph or a similar perfusion chamber where a segment of an artery, such as a mesenteric or cerebral artery, is mounted. The vessel is cannulated and maintained in a physiological saline solution bath. The system allows for precise control and measurement of intraluminal pressure, often using a servo-null pressure system. Researchers can apply vasoactive drugs to the bath or lumen to study endothelial function, smooth muscle reactivity, and vascular mechanics like compliance and stiffness. This technique provides highly controlled, direct measurements of vessel diameter and wall tension in response to pharmacological or pressure stimuli, making it a fundamental tool in cardiovascular and pharmacological research.
