Plate sealers are laboratory instruments used to securely seal the wells of microplates, most commonly 96-well or 384-well PCR plates. This sealing process is critical for preventing sample evaporation, cross-contamination, and aerosol formation during thermal cycling steps in polymerase chain reaction (PCR) protocols and other temperature-sensitive assays. Sealers typically apply a thin, adhesive foil or film over the plate surface using a combination of heat and pressure.
