Description
The Planar Biaxial TestBench from TA Instruments is a material testing system designed for the mechanical characterization of planar specimens, including engineered materials and biological soft tissues. This instrument enables researchers to investigate anisotropic properties and fundamental stress-strain behavior in samples such as wearable sensor films, surgical meshes, skin, and cardiovascular tissues. Its modular design allows configuration with two or four independent linear motors mounted on a horizontal baseplate, each axis equipped with a dedicated load cell. Key operational capabilities include precise control over force, displacement, frequency, and loading waveform, supporting tests under load, displacement, or strain control regimes. An optional Digital Video Extensometer (DVE) facilitates integrated, non-contact two-dimensional strain mapping in physiologically relevant environments. The system can be tailored with various accessories, including tensile grips, a heated saline bath, a sterile BioDynamic chamber, and extended-stroke or torsion actuators, making it adaptable to specific research requirements in biomaterials and tissue mechanics.
