Oxitest Oxidation Stability Reactor
Manufacturer: VELP Scientific, Inc.
SKU: Oxitest
Description
The Oxitest Oxidation Stability Reactor from VELP Scientific is an analytical instrument used to determine the oxidative stability of fats and oils within solid or semi-solid food samples. A primary feature is its ability to perform analysis directly on the sample material without a preliminary solvent extraction step, aiming to provide more representative results. The instrument operates by placing samples in two sealed, temperature-controlled titanium chambers pressurized with oxygen. It monitors the pressure decrease caused by oxygen uptake as the sample oxidizes. From this data, it automatically calculates the Induction Period (IP), which indicates the onset of rapid oxidation. The reactor has a temperature range from ambient up to 120 degrees Celsius and is compliant with the AOCS Cd 12c-16 standard test method. Operation is managed by dedicated software (OXISoft) which controls method parameters, displays real-time conditions, and processes results. Applications include shelf-life prediction, comparison of formulations or packaging materials, and quality control testing for fats, oils, and fat-containing foods.
