Description

The Orbitrap Astral Mass Spectrometer is a high-performance hybrid mass spectrometer that integrates three mass analyzers: a quadrupole, an Orbitrap analyzer, and a novel Astral analyzer. The Orbitrap analyzer provides high-resolution accurate-mass (HRAM) measurements with a resolution range from 7,500 to 480,000 at m/z 200 and an extended mass range option up to m/z 8,000. The Astral analyzer operates at a fixed resolution of 80,000 at m/z 524 and is designed for high-speed acquisition, with scanning rates up to 200 Hz. The instrument uses an adjustable heated electrospray ionization (HESI) source. Its ion optics and synchronized parallel processing architecture allow the concurrent handling of multiple ion packets, enabling the Orbitrap and Astral analyzers to operate in combination. This design supports advanced acquisition strategies like high-resolution data-independent acquisition (HR-DIA) and data-dependent acquisition (DDA), facilitating applications in precise label-free quantitation (LFQ) and multiplexed experiments using Tandem Mass Tag (TMT) reagents. The system's physical dimensions are 952 mm x 1963 mm x 1394 mm.
