Description

Opentrons Flex Prep is a foundational, semi-automated pipetting system designed as an accessible entry point into laboratory automation. It features a user-friendly, walk-up interface that allows for routine tasks like aliquoting, serial dilution, normalization, and cherrypicking without requiring programming knowledge. The system is built on the modular Flex platform, starting with a basic pipetting configuration. It supports the use of up to two pipettes, which can be 1-channel, 8-channel, or 96-channel models, with a pipetting range of 1 µL to 1000 µL. A key aspect of its design is scalability; the initial setup can be expanded by adding modules such as a gripper, temperature controller, thermocycler, or heater-shaker, enabling a transition to more complex, fully automated workflows like NGS library preparation. It maintains compatibility with other Opentrons Flex modules for integrated system growth.
