Configured for protein purification and proteomics, the Opentrons Flex Magnetic Bead Protein Purification Workstation is an automated liquid handling system. It utilizes the modular Flex robot as its base, integrating pipettes, a labware gripper, on-deck modules, and specific labware to perform magnetic bead-based protocols. The system handles volumes from 1 to 1000 µL and works with 96-well and 384-well plates. It is designed to automate several key steps in sample processing, including enzymatic or chemical lysis, SP3 sample preparation for liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), protein purification using magnetic beads, protein labeling, and sample preparation for SDS-PAGE and native PAGE analyses. Additional supported assays include BCA and Bradford protein quantification. Control is facilitated through a built-in touchscreen or via remote operation using the Opentrons App and open-source APIs, aiming to enhance reproducibility, efficiency, and throughput while reducing manual labor.
