Description

The OmegaTOF is a benchtop mass spectrometer from Shimadzu that integrates CovalX technology to extend MALDI-TOF analysis into the high-mass range. It combines the platform of Shimadzu's MALDI-8020 with specialized detection capabilities, enabling the analysis of biomolecules and complexes with masses up to 1.5 MegaDalton (m/z 1,000–1,500,000 Da). This system is designed for characterizing large biomolecules, protein interactions, peptides, oligonucleotides, and polymers with high sensitivity. Specific applications include the analysis of monoclonal antibodies (IgG, IgA, IgM) and the direct measurement of intact protein complexes using CovalX crosslinking chemistries, providing data on aggregation, antigen interactions, and stoichiometry. Instrument features include a 200 Hz solid-state 355 nm laser with a long operational lifetime, a load-lock chamber for fast sample introduction, and an integrated barcode reader. The ion optics incorporate WideBore™ technology and a patented TrueClean™ source design to minimize contamination. The system operates quietly (<55 dB) and has a compact footprint. Data acquisition is managed by tailored software with security features for regulatory compliance, and results can be imported into CovalX's ComplexTracker software for detailed interaction analysis. The mass resolution exceeds 5000 FWHM at m/z 2465.
