Description

The Nicolet iS50 FTIR spectrometer is a modular, research-grade system designed as a flexible materials analysis workstation. It features a broad spectral range from 15 to 27,000 cm⁻¹, covering far-infrared to visible regions, and offers a high resolution better than 0.09 cm⁻¹. The base unit includes all-gold optics, a high-resolution standard, and a validation wheel. A key feature is its modularity, allowing the system to be upgraded from a basic FTIR bench to a multi-technique platform. Optional, software-initiated modules enable integrated ATR, Raman, and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy without manual hardware changes. The system supports an Automated Beamsplitter Exchanger (ABX) for switching spectral ranges. The base unit footprint is 25 by 27 inches, with a weight of 132 pounds. Adding the ABX module increases the height but not the footprint's length or width. The instrument is compatible with a wide range of existing FTIR accessories and specialized modules for TGA-IR and GC-IR. Data management is supported through the Thermo Fisher Cloud via a Thermo Fisher Connect account. The OMNIC Anywhere app enables remote viewing, sharing, and basic analysis of spectral data from various devices, with secure cloud storage starting at 10 GB. The iS50 is used in applications such as polymer science, pharmaceuticals, forensics, and food analysis.
