Description
The NEX CG II Series from Rigaku are energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometers employing an indirect excitation design. This configuration utilizes secondary targets to generate monochromatic, polarized X-rays for sample excitation, a method that significantly reduces background noise compared to conventional direct excitation systems. The result is enhanced signal-to-noise ratios and improved detection limits, particularly for trace elements in complex matrices such as water, oils, and biological materials. These spectrometers perform non-destructive multi-element analysis from sodium (Na) to uranium (U) across a diverse range of sample types, including solids, liquids, powders, pastes, coatings, and thin films. Key hardware components include a choice of high-power X-ray tubes (50 kV/50 W or 65 kV/100 W with a palladium anode) and a large-area silicon drift detector (SDD) for high-throughput data collection. The system operates in air, helium, or vacuum environments. Available in standard (NEX CG II) and higher-powered (NEX CG II+) models, the series is suited for applications from industrial quality control to advanced research. It is supported by QuantEZ software for instrument control and analysis, alongside advanced RPF-SQX fundamental parameters software featuring scattering FP and Rigaku Profile Fitting for peak deconvolution. Various automatic sample changers are available to accommodate samples up to 52 mm in diameter.
