Description

The NEPHELOstar Plus from BMG LABTECH is a microplate reader that employs laser-based nephelometry to measure light scattering in solution. Its primary application is the rapid assessment of compound solubility, a critical step in drug discovery and compound management. The instrument uses a 635 nm laser diode and detects forward-scattered light at angles up to 80 degrees, offering approximately thirty times greater sensitivity for these measurements compared to conventional transmission-based readers. It can process microplates with formats up to 384 wells, with measuring times of approximately 16 seconds for a 96-well plate. Features include software-adjustable laser beam intensity and diameter for measuring colored or turbid samples, temperature-controlled incubation up to 45°C, and optional on-board reagent injectors. The system is compatible with robotic handlers and can be equipped with a microplate stacker for increased throughput.
