Description

The PCE-WAM 20 is a portable instrument designed for measuring water activity (aw) in solid and semi-solid materials. Water activity, which ranges from 0 to 1.0000, indicates the amount of free water available for microbial growth and chemical reactions, making it a critical parameter for assessing product shelf life and stability. This meter provides readings with an accuracy of ±0.015 aw within an ambient temperature range of 10 to 30°C (50 to 86°F), while the device itself can operate in environments from -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F). It features three measurement modes—fast, normal, and continuous—and typically delivers results within three to five minutes. Data management is facilitated by internal storage for over 5,000 records and a micro USB port for transferring results to a computer. Power is supplied by either four AA batteries or a 5V USB connection, supporting use in both laboratory and field settings. The unit includes a sensor, sample holder, ten measurement beakers, software, a USB cable, and a carrying case. Its primary applications are in quality control and research for industries such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and animal feed production.
