Description
Shimadzu's MDGC/GCMS-2010 is a multi-dimensional gas chromatography system engineered for the high-resolution separation of complex mixtures. The core principle involves using two columns with different stationary phases. Components that are not fully resolved after the first column are selectively transferred, or 'heart-cut,' to the second column for further separation, achieving a degree of resolution unattainable with a single column. This system incorporates multi-Deans switching technology, which is designed to provide excellent retention time stability and high reproducibility, even with multiple switching events. It is applicable for challenging analyses such as petroleum products, fragrances, and optical isomers. The system is versatile, supporting detectors including a mass spectrometer (GCMS), flame ionization detector (FID), flame photometric detector (FPD), thermal conductivity detector (TCD), electron capture detector (ECD), and flame thermionic detector (FTD). It can be integrated with pretreatment systems like headspace samplers. Furthermore, the GC and GCMS components can be configured to operate as independent instruments when not used in the multi-dimensional mode.
