LED Transilluminator

Description

This LED Transilluminator from BT Lab Systems is a compact imaging device for visualizing nucleic acids stained with fluorescent dyes, such as SYBR Safe or GelRed, in agarose gels. It emits blue light at a wavelength of 470 nm, which excites these dyes, causing them to fluoresce and making DNA or RNA bands visible. The unit features a rectangular viewing area measuring 100 mm by 150 mm. A notable design aspect is its low profile, with a height of just 30 mm, which contributes to a space-efficient footprint on the laboratory bench. By utilizing LED technology instead of traditional UV bulbs, it provides a safer alternative for the user, eliminating exposure to harmful ultraviolet radiation, while also generally consuming less power and having a longer operational lifespan.
