LabGard® ES TE NU-565 Class II, Type B2 Biosafety Fume Hood

Description

The LabGard ES TE NU-565 from NuAire is a Class II, Type B2 biosafety cabinet, also referred to as a biosafety fume hood. This bench-top unit can be optionally paired with a base stand for console-style operation. Its design incorporates an Energy Saver (ES) system utilizing a DC ECM motor and a specifically selected forward-curved fan to balance energy use with the capacity for filter loading. Airflow is regulated by a digital solid-state controller with dual thermistor sensors, providing constant volume control that compensates for filter loading and voltage fluctuations. This enclosure applies laminar flow principles to create a controlled environment for work with biological agents and hazardous chemicals. It is intended to minimize exposure risks to personnel and products during research, drug preparation, or other procedures involving low to moderate risk materials, consistent with established safety protocols. To qualify as a Class II, Type B2 cabinet, the NU-565 maintains an inflow velocity of at least 105 fpm (0.53 m/s). A key differentiator from Type A2 cabinets is its total exhaust design: all inflow and downflow air is drawn from the room or outside, passes through a HEPA filter, and is then entirely exhausted to the atmosphere via a hard-ducted connection to the building's exhaust system. No air is recirculated back into the cabinet or laboratory. All contaminated internal passages are kept under negative pressure. This configuration makes it suitable for work with flammable solvents, volatile chemicals, and radionuclides, provided a chemical risk assessment permits their use.
