Description

The HS-20NX series from Shimadzu comprises headspace samplers for gas chromatography, designed for the analysis of volatile compounds in solid or liquid matrices. The series includes two primary models: a Loop model for standard static headspace analysis and a Trap model that incorporates dynamic headspace (purge and trap) techniques for applications demanding higher sensitivity. A key feature is the use of an isolation gas flow system, which significantly reduces sample carryover—reportedly to one-tenth of conventional designs—by preventing analyte diffusion from the vent channel. This minimizes the need for repeated blank runs. The sampler accommodates up to 90 vials, with a typical sample volume range of 10 to 20 mL. For consistent performance, the vial is loaded from the bottom of the oven to limit heat loss and maintain temperature stability during repeated analyses. The system supports high-temperature operation, with the vial oven and sample line capable of reaching 300°C and the transfer line up to 350°C. The sample pathway is designed to be short and inert to reduce analyte adsorption and peak broadening. It supports alternative carrier gases like nitrogen and hydrogen for method transfer. User maintenance is facilitated by the ClickTek™ NX connector for tool-free column connections. Operational efficiency is enhanced by the ability to pre-heat up to 12 vials in the oven and an automatic overlap analysis function that optimizes total run time for methods with longer incubation periods.
