Description

The FastPrep-24 5G Homogenizer from MP Biomedicals is a mechanical bead mill instrument designed for the efficient disruption of biological samples. It utilizes a vigorous, multi-dimensional shaking motion to agitate samples within sealed lysing matrix tubes, forcing the material against ceramic or glass beads to achieve rapid lysis or homogenization. This closed-tube methodology significantly reduces the risk of cross-contamination and simplifies post-processing cleanup. The system is compatible with a broad range of sample volumes, from approximately 200 microliters up to 50 milliliters. Operation is managed via an integrated programmable touchscreen, which allows for the creation of custom protocols by defining speed and time parameters or the selection of pre-loaded methods. The homogenizer is effective for processing a variety of difficult sample types, including microbial cultures, plant and animal tissues, and even hard materials like bone. Typical applications involve preparing lysates for downstream nucleic acid extraction (DNA or RNA) from environmental samples, clinical specimens, or cultured cells, as well as for protein isolation workflows.
