Distributed in North America by Leeds Forensic Systems, the Evofinder® Automated Ballistic Identification System is a forensic instrument for the analysis of firearms evidence. It operates as a scanning system that acquires high-resolution 2D and 3D digital images of bullets and cartridge cases. These images support tasks such as direct visual comparison, correlation searches against ballistic databases, and detailed examination of tool marks. The system incorporates a four-motor mechanism designed to facilitate high-quality imaging, even of significantly deformed bullets. A universal cassette allows for the mounting and precise orientation of various sample types within the scanner. Its applications include bullet and cartridge case correlation, analysis of striations, impression marks, and lands and grooves. The system is noted for a relatively compact and portable design compared to conventional ballistic microscopy setups.
