EC-52000IC (Ion Cleaner)
Manufacturer: JEOL USA, Inc.
SKU: EC-52000IC
Description
Designed for electron microscopy sample preparation, the EC-52000IC Ion Cleaner removes hydrocarbon contaminants from specimen surfaces. The process involves generating a glow discharge within the treatment chamber, where physical and chemical interactions help strip away contaminant layers. Performing this cleaning step before imaging helps minimize artifacts caused by contamination buildup under electron beam irradiation. A practical feature allows the sample to be cleaned while it remains mounted on its standard microscope holder, streamlining the workflow. The system operates without requiring the introduction of specialty gases. Its chamber has an internal diameter of about 120 mm and a height of roughly 40 mm. Operation occurs at a pressure maintained between 35 and 40 Pascals, using a rotary pump with a 10 liters per minute flow rate.
