Description

The Thermo Scientific DXR3 SmartRaman Spectrometer is a macro-sampling instrument intended for routine analytical use. It simplifies Raman spectroscopy through automated, push-button operation, making the technique accessible to operators without specialized training. Designed for reliability and minimal upkeep, the system provides reproducible measurements. Samples can be analyzed directly through various packaging materials, including glass and plastic, often without any preparation. For heterogeneous materials, the measurement area can be expanded to a 5 x 5 mm spot to ensure representative sampling. The platform supports automated analysis of samples in formats such as well-plates, vials, and tablet arrays. Optional fiber-optic probes enable remote sampling, and specialized cells are available for experiments requiring temperature control or electrochemical conditions. Technically, the spectrometer captures a broad spectral range from 50 to 3500 cm⁻¹ in a single exposure with a CCD detector, avoiding spectral stitching. The Variable Dynamic Point Sampling (VDPS) feature allows the user to adjust the measurement spot size from 10 micrometers up to 5 millimeters. Multiple laser excitation sources are integrated, including a 532 nm diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser, a 633 nm helium-neon gas laser, and 780 nm diode lasers. System functions include automatic fluorescence and intensity correction, along with multidimensional wavelength calibration to ensure data accuracy and comparability. A patented triplet spectrograph design maintains spectral focus and peak shape across the entire range. Additional features encompass automated cosmic ray rejection, depolarized laser excitation to minimize sample orientation effects, a laser power regulator for consistent output, and dedicated gratings optimized for each laser wavelength. Routine performance is supported by automatic alignment and background correction procedures.
