Description

The AquaLab 4TE is a dew point instrument for measuring water activity (aw) in samples. It uses a chilled-mirror dew point method to determine the equilibrium relative humidity of the air above a sealed sample. The measurement range extends from 0.030 to 1.000 aw. The average measurement time is less than five minutes, often around 2.5 minutes. A key feature is internal temperature control, allowing the user to set a specific measurement temperature between 15°C and 50°C, which is important for obtaining consistent results as water activity is temperature-dependent. The unit is portable, weighing about 7 pounds. Its applications are broad, including the analysis of baked goods, snack foods, processed meats, confectionery, cereals, nuts, dried fruits, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, plastics, tobacco, seeds, and vegetable oils. Operation involves placing a sample in a disposable cup, which is then sealed within the instrument's measurement chamber for analysis.
