Crystallization Elution Fractionation (CEF)
Manufacturer: Polymer Char
SKU: CEF
Description
Polymer Char's Crystallization Elution Fractionation (CEF) system is an automated platform for analyzing the chemical composition distribution (CCD) of polyolefins. The technique merges separation concepts from crystallization analysis fractionation (CRYSTAF) and temperature rising elution fractionation (TREF). Designed for efficient operation, the instrument can analyze sequences of 42 or 66 samples per day using disposable glass vials. Software controls the fully automated analysis cycle, which proceeds without manual steps. Standard detection is performed with an infrared (IR) sensor, which monitors sample concentration and yields data related to comonomer content. For more comprehensive characterization, an optional viscometer detector can be integrated to provide molar mass information and reveal its relationship with chemical composition. The system's versatility extends beyond CEF; by exchanging the separation column, it can also perform TREF and Temperature Gradient Interaction Chromatography (TGIC*) analyses. This broadens its applicability to a wide spectrum of materials, including polypropylene, polyethylene, their various copolymers and blends, as well as post-consumer recyclates. It operates at temperatures as low as -20°C to accommodate low-crystallinity samples and incorporates automated rinsing procedures that maintain low solvent consumption.
