Cole-Parmer Blue Light Transilluminator; 230V
Manufacturer: Cole-Parmer
Description
Designed for use with 230V AC power systems, this Cole-Parmer transilluminator provides blue light illumination for visualizing stained nucleic acids in agarose gels. The instrument uses an array of LEDs emitting light at 465 nm. Exposure to this wavelength is less harmful to DNA and RNA than ultraviolet light, minimizing strand breaks and mutations that could affect subsequent procedures like sequencing or amplification. By helping to maintain sample integrity, the device supports more consistent experimental results. Operation involves placing an electrophoresis gel on the viewing surface; the blue light excites fluorescent stains bound to nucleic acids, causing them to emit visible light and allowing bands to be identified and analyzed.
