Description

The Gilson CENTRY 101 is a compact centrifuge designed for processing microplates in applications such as cell culture, molecular biology, and microbiology. Its key design element is a patented swing-out rotor that holds plates at a 75-degree angle for easy loading and access. When the lid is closed and the run begins, the rotor swings the plates to a vertical orientation for spinning. This action is intended to reduce the risk of cross-contamination between wells and helps to pellet reagents at the bottom of each well, which can enhance the consistency of assays like PCR. The centrifuge accepts a variety of standard microplates and PCR plates, with a capacity for two plates per run. It reaches a maximum speed of 2,550 rpm, generating a relative centrifugal force of 600 x g, and can typically process samples in under 20 seconds. A safety feature automatically engages the brake when the lid is opened, stopping the rotor in approximately four seconds. With dimensions of 230 mm by 260 mm (9.2 by 10.2 inches) and a weight of 4.1 kg, it is compact enough to fit inside biological safety cabinets or on crowded benchtops.
