Description

The Biotage Lysera is an automated bead mill homogenizer and liquid extraction instrument configured for benchtop or fume hood installation. It is applied in analytical sample preparation workflows, particularly for food safety and environmental analysis targeting specific compound classes such as PFAS, pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), mycotoxins, and acrylamide. The device processes sample volumes spanning 20 microliters to 50 milliliters using disposable tubes in sizes from 0.5 mL to 50 mL to eliminate carryover between runs. Its operational speed is adjustable from 0.8 to 8 meters per second in precise 0.15 m/s increments. This control, combined with a specific carriage motion pattern, is designed to enhance bead agitation efficiency while reducing sample vortexing and heat buildup. The front-loading design incorporates a removable tube carriage, facilitating easy loading and allowing for pre-cooling of samples. Users can store up to 99 custom protocols to ensure method consistency, and the system includes temperature monitoring. It is capable of homogenizing a variety of materials, including soft tissues, hard substances like seeds and soil, and microbial cultures, with performance supported by a range of specialized bead mixtures.
