Biomek i5 Automated Workstation

Manufacturer: Beckman Coulter Life Sciences

SKU: Biomek i5

Description

Beckman Coulter Life Sciences' Biomek i5 Automated Workstation is a liquid handling platform designed for medium- to high-throughput applications. It features an open, grid-based deck providing 25 positions to accommodate various labware, from individual tubes to 1536-well microplates. The system offers two primary pipetting configurations. A multichannel head processes 96- or 384-well formats with a volume range of 0.5 µL to 1,000 µL. Alternatively, a Span-8 head can be used for column-based processing, with an extended volume range up to 5,000 µL; this head supports independent probe calibration and liquid-level sensing. Operational components include Automated Labware Positioners (ALPs) for moving samples and a high-access rotating gripper. The system can be operated as an open platform or with an optional enclosure. It is controlled by icon-based software running on a Windows 10 operating system, which facilitates method development, data tracking, and connectivity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). Additional software enables process scheduling. Integrated cameras allow for remote viewing and error capture, while safety features include a light curtain and a status light bar. The Biomek i5 is used in genomic, drug discovery, and basic research applications and can be integrated with other devices to create customized automated workflows.
