Description

The Biomek i3 is a compact, automated liquid handling system from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences intended for laboratories beginning to adopt automation or those with moderate throughput needs. Its design prioritizes a small benchtop footprint while offering a functional workspace with 15 standard pipettable positions and five flexible deck locations for custom labware or peripheral devices. Liquid transfer is performed by an 8-channel pipetting pod, which can be configured to use between one and eight disposable tips per cycle, handling volumes from 1 to 1,000 µL. An integrated gripper manages labware weighing up to 725 grams. The system is compatible with ANSI/SLAS-standard labware and supports integration with external devices. Control is managed through dedicated Windows® 11-compatible software featuring a touchscreen interface. Instrument features include a deck observation camera, an installed UV-C light source, and an optional HEPA filtration unit for applications requiring a controlled environment. The software supports configurable user accounts and maintains audit trails for compliance. The Biomek i3 is applicable for numerous protocols, including nucleic acid extraction, ELISA, NGS library preparation, PCR/qPCR setup, and cell culture maintenance.
