Description

The BD FACSMelody is a compact, benchtop cell sorter designed to make fluorescence-activated cell sorting accessible and routine in standard research laboratories. It performs sorting based on up to three fluorescent parameters, with a throughput of up to 10,000 cells per second and an event rate of 40,000 events per second. The system features a fully enclosed, cartridge-based fluidics system that minimizes aerosol generation, supporting biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) compliant workflows for sorting potentially biohazardous samples. Operation is guided by intuitive software that simplifies setup, compensation, gating, and sorting protocols. The instrument uses fixed-alignment optics and pre-configured settings to reduce daily startup time and enhance reproducibility. It accepts samples from standard 5 mL tubes and can sort into various collection formats, including tubes and microplates. The FACSMelody is positioned as a user-friendly solution for applications such as immunophenotyping, single-cell cloning, and sample preparation for genomic analysis, without the complexity and space requirements of larger sorters.
