BD BACTEC Instrumented Blood Culture Systems are automated platforms for the continuous monitoring and detection of microorganisms in clinical blood samples. These systems are designed to streamline laboratory workflows by integrating incubation and automated detection into a single process. They employ fluorescence-based sensor technology to monitor each culture vial for increases in carbon dioxide, a metabolic byproduct indicative of microbial growth. This method allows for the early identification of a broad spectrum of pathogens, including various bacteria and yeasts. When growth is detected, the system generates a positive signal, alerting laboratory personnel to proceed with subculturing and further identification procedures.
