BCA Protein Assay Kit

Description

This kit provides reagents for a colorimetric bicinchoninic acid (BCA) assay to determine total protein concentration in solution. The method relies on the reduction of copper ions by proteins in an alkaline environment. The resulting cuprous ions form a purple-colored complex with BCA, and the absorbance of this complex at 562 nm is directly proportional to protein concentration. Supplied in a liquid format, the kit is commonly used to quantify proteins in samples such as cell lysates and protein purification eluates. A key characteristic of the assay is its compatibility with many common sample buffers and its relative tolerance for various non-protein components. The procedure can be performed in test tubes or microplates, using a provided protein standard, typically bovine serum albumin (BSA), to generate a calibration curve.
