Description

Shimadzu's AXIMA Confidence is a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer configured for routine analysis, offering mass determination and structural detail through MS/MS capabilities. It provides a linear mode for analyzing high-molecular-weight samples and a reflectron mode that incorporates a curved-field reflectron design. The reflectron mode delivers a mass resolution of 15000 FWHM, while linear mode resolution is specified as 5000 FWHM. The system uses a variable repetition rate 50 Hz nitrogen laser and advanced ion optics intended to support various sample throughput needs. Pulsed ion extraction and the reflectron design aim to improve spectral resolution. The instrument includes features for performing MS/MS experiments, where the curved-field reflectron is noted for enhancing the low-mass fragment ion region of spectra. Both positive and negative ion modes are included as standard. A patented beam blanker is present to manage low-mass ions and reduce detector saturation. Sample target compatibility includes standard 96- or 384-well microtiter plates, Fleximass microscope slides (plain or 48-well), and adaptors for unconventional layouts. Integration with robotic sample preparation devices like the AccuSpot MALDI spotter and CHIP chemical printer is possible, enabling application-specific platforms for areas such as tissue imaging or automated polymer analysis.
