Description

The Shimadzu AXIMA Assurance is a MALDI time-of-flight mass spectrometer designed for routine manual or automated analysis across diverse sample types. It provides rapid acquisition of mass spectra and includes software for data processing and reporting. The system employs a variable repetition rate 50 Hz nitrogen laser and is suitable for high-throughput quality assurance and control applications, including the analysis of oligonucleotides, synthetic peptides, polymers, and other small molecules. Key technical attributes include a mass resolution exceeding 5000 FWHM. The instrument features pulsed ion extraction from the MALDI source to enhance resolution, along with calibration algorithms intended to improve data accuracy. Operation in both positive and negative ion modes is standard, which broadens the range of compounds that can be studied. A patented beam blanker function helps remove low-mass ions and prevent detector saturation. Sample introduction is flexible, supporting standard 96- or 384-well microtiter plate targets, Fleximass microscope slides (available in plain or 48-well formats), and various adaptors for custom sample layouts. The AXIMA Assurance can be integrated with robotic sample preparation systems such as the AccuSpot MALDI plate spotter and the CHIP chemical printer for specialized workflows like tissue imaging or automated polymer analysis when combined with a Prominence GPC system.
