Description

The Aura GT System from Waters | Wyatt Technology is a particle analysis instrument specifically configured for characterizing viral vectors used in gene therapy, such as adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) and lentiviruses. It is designed to analyze small sample volumes, requiring only 5 µL, which is advantageous during early-stage development when material is limited. The system combines Backgrounded Membrane Imaging (BMI) and Fluorescence Membrane Microscopy (FMM) technologies to detect, count, and characterize particles. It can measure particles across a broad size range, from >1 µm to <5 mm in equivalent circular diameter (ECD). A key application is distinguishing between intact viral capsids, empty capsids, and non-capsid aggregates, and it can help investigate issues like DNA leakage. Measurements are rapid, with BMI read times of about one minute per sample. This enables direct comparison between different formulations, serotypes, and storage conditions to support stability studies and process development.
