Blue silica gel has the tendency to absorb up to 40% of its weight in moisture. This can easily be observed when the beads get changed from blue state to pink state. As it contains Cobalt Chloride II, therefore it is not recommended for the residential use. Silica gel can remove the moisture at maximum temperature 220ºF, at room temperature from 70 to 90ºF and at high 60 – 90% Relative Humidity (RH). Due to the strong adsorption capacity at low relative humidity, blue indicating silica gel packets are widely used in various fields for the drying process. This gel can be combined with non-indicating standard silica gel that comes in white color for the reconditioning once they get saturated.
